High level of financial literacy among Polish youth

Polish students count and understand finances well. Of the 20 countries that participated in the additional part of the PISA 2018 survey on financial literacy, the average score of Polish 15-year-olds was one of the highest in the world. The pilot of the P-TECH programme begins

IBM announced today that it is launching the P-TECH educational and vocational development programme in cooperation with the Educational Research Institute and Samsung and Fujitsu Technology Solutions. “OECD Skills Strategy: Poland” has been released

The “OECD Skills Strategy: Poland” report was presented at a conference on December 11th in Warsaw. Poland draws on the experience of the OECD in developing this national strategic document – the Integrated Skills Strategy (ISS). The OECD report is a cross-sectional, synthetic diagnosis of the state of solutions concerning mechanisms supporting skills development. It also includes a series of recommendations based on good practices functioning in other countries. The diagnosis and recommendations were developed in close cooperation with Polish stakeholders who participated in workshops organised by the OECD in cooperation with the Ministry of National Education and the Educational Research Institute.

OECD Skills Strategy: Poland

The report contains recommendations that are tailored to Poland's specific needs, take into account the international perspective and are based on indicators used by the OECD. The report focuses on four priority areas relating to the improvement of Poland's skills achievement, which have been identified by the OECD in cooperation with the Polish government. These are:

  1. Increasing the effectiveness of the education system's response to labour market needs.
  2. Supporting greater participation in all forms of adult learning.
  3. Strengthening the use of skills in Polish enterprises.
  4. Strengthening the management of the skills system in Poland.

The report will be an important reference for the detailed part of the Integrated Skills Strategy currently being developed (the general part of this document was adopted by the government in January 2019). The aim of the Integrated Skills Strategy is to define a coherent policy for shaping and developing skills in Poland.

Integrated Skills Strategy

The primary aim of the Integrated Skills Strategy is to create opportunities and conditions for the development of skills needed to strengthen social capital, social inclusion and economic growth, as well as to achieve a high quality of life. The Ministry of National Education is responsible for the comprehensive elaboration of the ISS. The Educational Research Institute, which provides expert support to the Ministry, is also involved in working on the Strategy. Implementation of the premises of the Integrated Skills Strategy should contribute to Poland's fulfilment of objective 4.4. of the United Nation’s “Agenda for Sustainable Development 2030”, that is, to increase by 2030 the number of young people and adults with the appropriate skills to achieve this objective, including technical and vocational skills, for employment, jobs and entrepreneurship.
