“OECD Skills Strategy: Poland” has been released

The pilot of the P-TECH programme begins

Workshops for stakeholders of the Integrated Skills Strategy

On Tuesday, May 28, workshops for stakeholders of the Integrated Skills Strategy (ISS) were held at the Arche Hotel in Warsaw. They were organized by the Educational Research Institute together with the Ministry of National Education and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

The meeting was inaugurated by Marzena Machałek, Secretary of State in the Ministry of National Education. The speakers included Judit Rozsa from the Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion of the European Commission. In her speech, our guest from Brussels emphasised the importance of innovation in the education sector. Dr Piotr Stankiewicz, Director of the Educational Research Institute, also spoke in a similar tone, emphasising the role of lifelong learning and informal learning.

Recommendations for education

At the end of the plenary session, OECD representatives presented recommendations for the education sector in Poland, as well as the agenda of the workshops. Recommendations concerned, among others, the organisation of an information campaign to show employers the benefits of investing in the training of their employees and the need to promote the idea of lifelong learning among adults. After the end of the plenary session, conference participants broke down into small groups to discuss the recommendations in the four priority areas of the ISS :

  • increasing the responsiveness of the education system to the needs of the labour market;
  • supporting greater participation of adults in in all forms of learning;
  • strengthening the use of skills in the labour market and the workplace;
  • strengthening coordination and skills management structures.

 

Integrated Skill Strategy

The main objective of the Integrated Skills Strategy is to create opportunities and conditions for the development of those skills required to enhance social capital, social inclusion, and economic growth, as well as to achieve a high quality of life. The Minister of National Education is responsible for the development of the ISS. The Educational Research Institute is also involved in the work, providing the Ministry with expert support. The implementation of the objectives of the Integrated Skills Strategy should contribute to Poland's fulfilment of objective
