The results of the international TALIS survey will be announced in October

The TALIS survey provides reliable data that helps to better understand the situation of teachers and the needs of schools. This will give us knowledge that will enable us to support schools, teachers, and pupils.

In October 2025, we will learn the results of the international TALIS 2024 study organized by the OECD. The Educational Research Institute – National Research Institute will present the results for Polish schools. This date is no coincidence – October is when we celebrate World Teachers’ Day and Polish National Education Day. It is the perfect time to look at how teachers view their work and what we can do to better support them.

What is the TALIS survey?

TALIS (Teaching and Learning International Survey) is the world’s largest survey showing what the work of teachers and school directors looks like. It collects opinions and experiences on, among other things, working conditions, professional development, stress, job satisfaction, and the atmosphere in schools.

The survey is conducted every few years – Poland participated in 2008, 2013, and now in 2024. This edition involved more than 50 countries from around the world, allowing for a comparison of how teachers work in different education systems.

Why is the TALIS survey conducted?

The TALIS survey provides reliable data that helps to better understand the situation of teachers and the needs of schools. Thanks to this information, it is possible to:

  • compare teaching in Poland and other countries
  • track changes and trends in education
  • develop effective recommendations on how to improve the quality of teaching
  • promote good practices that are worth implementing in schools

The survey helps to develop evidence-based education policy.

Who participates in the TALIS survey?

In Poland, 280 primary schools participated in TALIS 2024. The survey was taken by teachers teaching grades 5–8 and the directors of these schools. A group of teachers was randomly selected from each school to ensure that the results were representative and reliable.

What does the TALIS survey look like?

The survey is conducted anonymously and securely. Each participant receives a unique login and password for the online questionnaire. The survey takes about 45–60 minutes to complete. No one—neither the school administration nor education authorities—has access to individual responses. The data is processed in a way that makes it impossible to identify a specific person or school.

What do we gain from the TALIS survey?

Participation in the survey has many benefits, both for teachers and for the education system as a whole. Thanks to TALIS:

  • we learn what a teacher’s job is really like—not just on paper, but in everyday practice
  • we gain a better understanding of what helps teachers develop and what hinders their development
  • we learn how other countries address similar challenges
  • we can make decisions that actually improve the quality of teaching in schools

The TALIS survey also strengthens the voice of teachers in the public debate and presents their perspective—an invaluable source of knowledge for those who decide on the future of education.

Why is it worth following the results of TALIS 2024?

The results of the TALIS 2024 survey will help answer important questions:

  • Do Polish teachers feel supported?
  • What does their professional development look like?
  • Which working conditions are conducive to better teaching?

This knowledge can contribute to building a better school—one where teachers are appreciated and pupils can thrive in a supportive environment.
